The Golan Archeological Museum
The Golan Archeological Museum has stood next to the Cultural Center and the library of Qazrin, the main town on the Golan, since July 1981. All its exhibits - some found in archeological ground surveys, some by systematic excavation - have been put on display by their owner, Israel's Antiquities Authority. The earliest finds are prehistoric, from the time when men first settled the area, while the latest date to the years when the Holy Land was under Mameluke rule (13th century C.E.). Accompanying photos and texts tell the story of each one. The idea of this website is to enable you to take a virtual walk around the museum, stopping at the topics and exhibits that interest you. The gripping story of Gamla, the Jewish town on the Golan that dared to declare rebellion against the Romans and fought them to the end with wonderful bravery, is recounted in a fascinating audiovisual production (in any of nine languages: Hebrew, English, French, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch). The Museum's visitors are just as varied as its exhibits - children and adults, families and groups, soldiers, students and foreign tourists. The Museum's guide-instructors run a range of activities for children and teenagers on themes connecting with the exhibits, so making the Museum an important and useful educational aide. Outside the Museum building, the grounds are laid out as a handsome archeological park showing some of the larger stone exhibits. The park can be hired for suitable special events and occasions
